Match Preview

On May 5th, one of the biggest stars of modern boxing will enter the ring. Saul Alvarez will be making his fourth defense of the undisputed world champion title in the super middleweight division. His fellow countryman Jaime Munguia will attempt to take away the IBF, WBA, WBC, and WBO belts from Canelo. According to sportbooks, the challenger has very slim chances of winning.

Canelo has lost only two fights in his professional career – to Floyd when he was still very young, and to Dmitry Bivol when he decided he could be the strongest even in the light heavyweight. Yes, there were also controversial fights with Golovkin, but officially the Mexican did not lose there. Last year, he entered the ring twice and secured two confident victories by unanimous decisions. Moreover, both John Ryder and Jermell Charlo were sent to the canvas by Alvarez during the fights.

His opponent will be a fighter with an impeccable record of 43-0. Interestingly, Munguia's last fight was against the aforementioned John Ryder and he knocked him out in the ninth round, defending the interim WBC champion title. Of Jaime's last five opponents, only Sergey Derevyanchenko made it to the final gong, in a fight which saw the Mexican winning a vacant title.

Canelo is the clear favorite for the upcoming match. No one can doubt his experience and skills. But Munguia has never lost to anyone and also significantly surpasses the champion in size. Therefore, we won't delve into the outcomes but will go through the total instead. Alvarez has become more cautious with age and against such a dangerous opponent will surely not take risks. Considering this, we bet that the fight will go the distance.
